Sleep is cruel
when pain is near.
When gripped by fear,
let darkness rule.
In dreams of light,
a gilded fraud,
we drift in awe
without our sight.
We wake in dread.
We ache inside.
We cannot hide.
We stare ahead.
Then we recall
the lawless fact:
it will not slack,
it will not pause —
until we sleep.
It starts again
the moment when
we take the leap.
