The sadness of a lost someone
seems sadder once they’re truly gone.
It feels so deep and powerful —
at first, that is, deep in the soul.
Once gone, the feeling returns numb;
the heart beats as a steady drum.
There was no empty hole inside;
that person never even tried.
It happened at the very start,
when she first opened up the heart.
Now that she left, she’s torn it out;
the hole she filled is now throughout.
Life moves on with wounded soul,
leaving nothing left but self-control.
The hope will lie with someone new,
to fill the hole with something true.
